A wedding is a ceremony that celebrates the joining of two people into marriage. This celebration can include a religious, secular, or non-traditional ceremony and/or reception. Some couples choose to fuse religious traditions with a more contemporary feel and others may opt to completely go non-traditional, creating a totally unique ceremony. Regardless of what sort of ceremony a couple selects to have, there are several important aspects that should be included in a newspaper article about a wedding.
The first section should include the date and time of the event as well as any special instructions or requests for guests. This includes things like photo booth hours, what time the sparkler send-off starts and what shuttle details are available. The next portion of the article should describe the order of events that will occur during the ceremony. This could include a prelude, the procesional, readings, the exchange of vows, and any other unique ritual that the couple may incorporate into their ceremony. It is helpful to have the officiant or minister help in this area, as they will know what is needed to ensure that all guests can understand what is happening during the ceremony.
Traditionally, the bride and groom will enter their ceremony down the aisle together as a sign of unity. This is followed by the processional, where everyone in the wedding party walks back up the aisle in a particular order. This typically begins with the flower girls and ring bearers, then the best man and maid of honor, then the rest of the bridal party, followed by the parents and then grandparents. Many couples choose to include a unity ritual during the ceremony, such as lighting a candle or passing a glass of wine, symbolizing that they are now sharing in each other’s lives.
Once the ceremony is over, the newlyweds will walk down the recessional line, greeting each guest as they go by. This is a wonderful way to show your appreciation for your guests’ presence and their support for you. Historically, this also was a good opportunity for the newlyweds to thank their wedding vendors, who will have been working hard to make the day run smoothly.
Tip: It’s a great idea to use the About Us section of your wedding program to tell your love story! You can make it as long or short as you like, but be sure to include some details that will spark interest among your guests. For example, you can talk about how you met your fiancĂ©, the proposal, or share a funny anecdote from your relationship.
Some couples will choose to skip the About Us section if their friends and family already know the story of how they met. This is okay too, especially if the couple has been childhood sweethearts and everyone who attends their wedding has seen them grow up together. If you are one of their vendors, however, it is a good idea to include a brief description of how the couple found you and what it was about your services that they particularly liked.
