How to Plan a Wedding

A wedding is a ceremony in which two people are united in marriage. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly across cultures, ethnicities, religions, denominations, countries, social classes, and sexual orientations. Some common elements include the exchange of vows and rings, a blessing by a priest or pastor, and a feast to celebrate the occasion. A wedding is often a lavish affair, with attendants and guests wearing finery and the couple taking part in traditional dances.

Before making any decisions, it’s a good idea to sit down with your partner and key family members to make a list of guests that you would like to invite. Once you have a number in mind, it is easier to determine your budget and start figuring out the logistics.

Ask your venue if they have their own vetted vendors and whether or not you have the option to choose your own. Also, make sure to find out if the package you are interested in includes all rentals (tables, chairs, silverware, etc.) or if you will have to rent those separately.

If you have a venue in mind, it’s important to ask what their cancellation policy is. You never know when something might come up and you’ll need to change your plans. If you have a flexible date, it may be best to book your venue and then work out the rest of the details later.

Another thing to keep in mind when booking your venue is their capacity. You don’t want to invite too many people because then you might not have enough room for everyone to fit on your guest list and/or have a seat at your table.

Once you have the basics out of the way, it’s time to start thinking about design and style. Having a theme in mind can help you narrow down your options when it comes to decor and overall aesthetic. It’s also a great idea to figure out who is responsible for what so that no one is left feeling under or over pressure.

Lastly, it’s important to consider the weather when choosing your venue. This can be a huge factor in planning any outdoor event and you’ll want to have a backup plan in case the weather turns sour on your special day.

The last thing you want to do is get too caught up on the tiny details. Remember that your big day is about celebrating the love you share with your partner and that’s what matters most! So have fun and enjoy every moment of your day – it will fly by! 🙂 (And don’t forget to breathe!) xoxo, Erin.
