Hello everyone!

September 30, 2016

I just want to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about myself and what I do! I'm Sophie!

I have just started work experience here at The Bridal Emporium which is very exciting! I am a bubbly 20 year old studying Textile Design at the University of Huddersfield, specialising in Embroidery. I am a creative individual and I love to design, whether it be painting/drawing patterns or patiently sewing tiny beads onto fabric and creating samples for either fashion or interior briefs that I work on at Uni.

Studying Textiles as a whole means that I have a wide range of knowledge in all aspects of the subject which is useful! In my first year at Uni I had lessons in weave, knit, print and embroidery which gave me a lot of confidence throughout my second year when I went onto specialising in embroidery. I had the opportunity to combine different techniques to create pieces that were unique which was really good!

I chose to do a bridal internship because it is everything a girl would dream of, right?! My embroidery style is usually quite sparkly with beads and delicate stitching so I thought bridal wear would be a suitable route to go down.

The Bridal Emporium stood out to me when I was searching for places to contact because they have a beautiful collection of dresses and accessories that are all carefully designed and made in the studio here in Leeds! I knew I would be able to show off my skills and learn a great deal from being here. I have already (with a little help, of course) sewn together a multi-way bridesmaid dress sample for the shop floor! Bearing in mind I have never ever made an actual dress before as I am used to just working on surface pattern! Wow!

Every girl dreams about their wedding dress and coming to The Bridal Emporium four days a week is a real treat, I get to explore all of the luxurious dresses in the shop and it's really hard to pick a favourite, I don't know how all you lovely brides manage to pick just one!! If I really have to tell you all my favourite dress in store in would be Juniper, which is a gorgeous lace dress with a heavily decorated body from the Casablanca collection. We all love a bit of sparkle!

This leads me on to tell you all who is my favourite bridal designer and overall designers at the moment! Caroline Castigliano is a British luxury bridal and evening wear designer who has stylishly dressed some of the worlds most famous females including film stars and a long list of celebrities! Her collection 'Passion' is my favourite, the dresses are extremely elegant and on trend.

I really like this detailed crop top and silk skirt design, it is very different to the traditional style wedding dress but I love it!

Elie Saab and Chanel are my all time favourite designers, their embroidery is exceptional. Both of these designers are extremely talented. My favourite part of both of their work is their embellishments.

Elie Saab particularly has distinctive bead work on most of her collections. Her recent collection Fall Winter 2016-2017 which is quite Avant Guard and bold which is really quirky.

So there we have it! Hopefully you know a little bit about me, what I do and what things I like Bridal and non bridal! You will be seeing more of me, whether it be blog posts or just a few selfies of me sewing!

Thank you for reading!
